The University of New Mexico is seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking leader to manage multiple Retail Departments at the UNM Bookstore including Supplies/Requisitions and the TechDen at the main bookstore and the Medical Legal bookstore. The selected candidate will, under general direction, provide administrative and functional supervision of the Supplies/Requisitions and Technology departments at the Main Bookstore, as well as the Medical Legal Bookstore This position is specifically responsible for managing all day-to-day store operations of these departments, including customer service, inventory control, sales and returns, and all related reporting. Responsible for supervising personnel which includes hiring, firing, performance evaluations, training, work allocation and problem resolution. Responsible for creating annual budgets and developing systems, practices and procedures to ensure sound fiscal direction is in place for the departments.

This position also assists in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive marketing program, which includes advertising, sales promotions, increasing awareness about products and services, visual merchandising, and special marketing events. Maintains positive, responsive working relationships with the campus community to increase bookstore visibility and raise awareness of products and services. Develops and implements policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficiency of all operations. Represents the organization at various community and/or business meetings, committees and task forces including campus, state, and regional associations, as well as national associations.

This position is responsible for working directly with Apple products and team members, ensuring that the Technology department is in compliance with all Apple Authorized Campus Store policies and procedures. This position is also responsible for working with UNM departments and administration in the procurement, processing, and documentation of all institutional purchases placed through the Bookstore, including supply and technology requisitions. The position will require the ability to work collaboratively and build partnerships with campus and vendor business partners.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Thorough understanding of retail accounting, inventory management terminology and practices, and pricing strategies
  • Experience with marketing to include developing promotions, organizing events, merchandise planning and analyzing results of each
  • Experience supervising staff and students in multiple departments, including training and performance management
  • Experience with vendor and distributor resources and be familiar with terms of sale within the industry
  • Demonstrated success creating new business opportunities
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external University departments to meet business goals
  • Experience with Apple sales and service systems, processes, and procedures
  • 1-3 years of experience in a technology-based sales environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
